Twenty years ago, the solid and comfortable 1933 house set in the mature gardens and plantings of 337 W. Moody, and overlooking the picturesque serpentine lake, was tripled in size, and given a handsome contemporary makeover. Today it is a stunning board and batten monochromatic dwelling on the exterior with a calming clean open and well-lit interior.
The architect for the project was the well-respected Tore Wallin of Perez Architects in New Orleans. In his plan, a one story private master bedroom wing was added on the lake side; and a two-story guest wing was connected, with a covered patio between, to the other end of the long rambling structure.
The center part, which is the original house, has a living room and a staff bedroom on one side, a huge dining room and kitchen on the other, and two bedrooms on the second floor. There is a wonderful old fashioned screened in porch filled with wicker furniture that ties it all together and overlooks the back gardens.
The one-story master bedroom wing has a large sitting room/office, a spacious master bath area, and the master bedroom itself with a huge bay window sitting area over-looking the grounds and the lake.
The guest wing turns to the back and connects to the carport with a huge covered patio between. The guest wing has a large pool room entertaining area with an upstairs bedroom area, and a separate guest room with a separate entrance on the ground level…and tons of closets and storage areas.
The long and asphalt paved entrance drive circles around the house, with the carport and parking area on the kitchen end, and a drive down to the 30’ x 40’ metal workshop and garage building, tucked away on the other.
It is a handsome and comfortable estate which has been lovingly developed and maintained.
